So a lot of people have been telling me that what I really need to do is get out and get in people's faces. I agree, because my adventure in Los Angeles showed me that if you're going to do something, get up and do it and don't sit behind a computer. Damn straight.
In that spirit, I have decided to take a road trip this summer, making money where I can (lemonade stands, sticker selling, tshirt selling, shovelling fertilizer for farmers, whatever) and talking to people about what success and money mean to them, because I am endlessly surprised and enlightened by the answers.
Where am I going? Glad you asked. I'd like to circle the perimeter of the United States, down the east coast, across the south west, and up the west coast, and ideally back through Canada, though these things are all subject to what the actual logistics of this trip end up being (who comes with me, how to do all of this ultra cheap as possible, how many places I have to stay, and so on.)
I leave on July 17th, or as close to it as I can manage. I needed a target date and I happened to find out that July 17th is Mark Burnett's birthday (if you don't know he's the creator of Survivor and one of the people responsible for this whole reality TV craze - for good or for ill). So it seemed as good a day as any.
I have a map! It's below! It shows where I have places to stay as of right now, and will be updated as more places are secured:
If you're interested in giving me and my camera person a place to crash, please give a holler.
